A bit about me, my father was an original 70’s Disco DJ accredited with raising the night club scene in Toronto, Canada back in the 70’s and 80’s, and one of the first electro early house/disco tracks I could never stop listening to was Donna Summer’s “I feel Love”, that haunting vocal, trance-y repetitive rift you could never tire of which set a precedent to the way dance music was to move forward.
My early years of DJ’ing was when I acquired two belt drive Denon’s from a mate of mine at the age of 14, and inspired by hardcore Dj’s such as Slipmatt, Carl Cox, Mickey Finn, Sy, Colin Faver, Colin Dale, I immersed myself into the art of mixing.
I set up a mobile disco business at the age of 16 with the help of the Prince’s trust where with two trusty colleagues, we ran disco’s for weddings & parties around the south coast, being a young headbanging white gloved Ninja back then we catered for the younger generation which wasn’t readily marketed but truly was an era when dance music and the rave scene meant so much to so many people. Throughout the 90’s my taste’s and inspirations changed, the house music scene was becoming ever more popular some of the great classic labels like Suburban, King Street, Strictly Rhythm, Bassline, Nervous, Cleveland City and Azuli artists were changing the way on what we now interpret modern house music to be about.
I fell into managing bars and nightclubs around the late 90’s where I’d always be hijacking the decks, and a definition was growing between garage and house music with the arrival of 2step, taking inspirations from those melodic, vocal early garage tracks and injecting a poppy broken beat, for me this was when mixing starting getting more creative and this reflected on many of the dance floors and drew massive crowd interaction, from there I started to move into the euphoric world of progressive and hard trance, which was when I felt mixing was more about telling a story and making a set a journey.
Just after the millennium I hung up my headphones and started to focus more on my management career, so never really had the time to DJ in the evening and weekends, but always managed to grab a set here and there. But collecting music never stopped for me and over this period I was inspired mainly by the deep and soulful house labels like Naked Music, OM Records, Mobile Trax, Subliminal Soul, to which is where my Genre mainly remains today.
